Okay, so this is talking about my favourite modern-day music-writer. My favourite all-time musician is Beethoven.

Colin Buchanan is an Australian singer/songwriter who has written literally hundreds of Christian songs for children, most of which are Bible verses put to words. He used to be a Playschool presenter (for those who don't know, that's a kid's TV show which is been produced and broadcast non-stop since July 1966. That's 45 years).

So Colin's pretty famous in Australia; most Christians have heard of him and almost every Christian with young children owns at least one CD of his songs. Lots of Sunday Schools used his songs and even some churches since them! Some of the songs are pretty silly and not the sort of thing you'd sing in church but some are serious and solemn. Kids like them because they're fun to sing and easy to learn, and parents like them because they're very very scriptural and Bible-based and do teach a lot.

Some of his most famous Christian kid's songs are:
    '10, 9, 8, God is great!',
    'Practice being Godly',
    'Remember the Lord',
    'He is Risen',
    'Follow the Saviour',
    'Jesus Rocks the World',
    'Everybody Get Ready',
'Baa Baa Doo Baa Baa' (a strange title, I know. Also known as 'Isaiah 53:6'),
'Hooley Dooley Whop Bam Boom' (another strange title. Actually, that's only half the title. 'Jesus Christ is coming soon...')
    'Lamentations 3:22-23',
'Leviticus 19:11' (also quoted on the back of all of his CDs),
    'Out of Tune with God',
'He's Got Australia in His Hands' (based on 'He's Got The Whole World In His Hands')
'Go Tell It To Australia' (based on 'Go Tell It On The Mountain')
And lots, lots more. In fact he recently released a songbook (strangely enough called 'Colin's Big Music Book - Colin Buchanan, Aussie Praise for Families') which has 188 Songs in it.

I'm not sure what the point of this is. But, yeah, Colin Buchanan's songs are great. They're some of the best kid's church songs I've heard and I've heard quite a few.

What about everyone else? What do Christian kids in America have? Do you have a Colin Buchanan of America?

The only one there I know is Chris Tomlin - he's pretty good I think but I have trouble singing along with his songs. He's male (obviously) and sings too low for me - but if I put it up an octave, it sometimes gets too high for me to reach comfortably!

I don't listed to specific artists so much, except for Colin Buchanan and Chris Tomlin. Mostly I just listen to genres - I have lots of CDs of hymns, for example, all sung by different people or groups. I also have a couple of DCs of classical music (most of these courtesy of my piano teacher telling me I need to listen to as many versions of my pieces as possible - I have 4 copies of Für Elise and 3 of Moonlight Sonata), and some CDs of Australian bush music.

I guess what I don't like about your average 'Christian artist' is that you often can't tell just from listening that they are - some of them write secular music and you don't know they're Christian unless it says so on the packet, and some write 'Christian' music that sounds just like secular music! I think the two aforementioned artists are about the only modern Christian songwriters I can tolerate.

I think what I meant was, do you have anyone who writes reasonably simple, catchy songs, aimed at young children, all with strong Biblical meaning and sometimes memories verses? This is what Colin Buchanan does, and almost every single Christian family I know with young kids has heard of him and/or owns one or more of his CDs.

I have a funny story about Cris Tomlin.
My aunt and uncle were listing for him and they didn't know his name. their raido said Cris T. and they were trying to figure out what it standed for. They finaly decided on Cris Tomato! So that is what we call him.
