I am reading a series called The Lady Grace Mysteries. It is about Lady Grace Cavendish, Maid of Honnor to Queen Elizabeth the 1st. The books are:

    Assassin
    Betrayal
    Conspiracy
    Deception
    Exile
    Feud

    Thanks!

I haven't read those books, but they sound interesting. If you're interesting in that sort of thing, you might like the 'Young Royals' books or the 'My Story' books - there are quite a few about people from that era.

I read a lot, so most of my favourite books are part of a series. Some of my favourites are:

'The Chronicles of Narnia' by C S Lewis. I'm sure you know what these are about.

The 'Little House' books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. These are actually an autobiography, but they're very interesting novels!

The 'A Life of Faith' serieses by Martha Finley. There are three series, the Elsie Dinsmore series, the Millie Keith series, and the Violet Travilla series. My favourites are the Millie Keith series. I've read the first Elsie Dinsmore one and it's very sad.

The 'Roman Mysteries' books by Caroline Lawrence. These are about four children in Roman times who solve mysteries. When we were younger, my mother read the books aloud to my sister and I. It uses real places and events. When we visited Italy several years ago, we visited the ruins of Ostia, the town the books are set in.

I also have some favourite authors (other than those already mentioned).

Rosanne Hawke - she's from either Adelaide or Kapunda (a town slightly to the north of Adelaide) and teaches at the local Bible college! I went to a book launch at Tabor (the Bible college) recently, for one of her books. Some friends of mine from the homeschooling group had been asked to speak at the book launch, and they invited me to watch before they found out she was my favourite author! She's a Christian, and she and her family used to be missionaries in Pakistan, so a lot of her books are set in Pakistan. Her others tend to be set in Cornwall (where her ancestors are from. A lot of people who live in the towns north of Adelaide, like Kapunda or Burra, are descended from Cornish miners, my family included). She has also written several books set in Australia, one set in Kapunda, one talking about the cameleers who took goods through the red centre. I highly recommend all her books.

Beverly Lewis - most of her books are about Amish people. I always find it interesting to read about Amish people, given that I am so often mistaken for being Amish (there are no Amish in Australia). But my favourite books about her aren't about Amish people. It's actually a series called 'Summerhill Secrets', which is about a Christian girl who lives in the Amish area, and about her life being a Christian at a public school. I recommend this series.

Janette Oke - actually my aunt's favourite author; I've borrowed all of her books from my aunt. I think the best ones from her I can recommend for our are 'Heart of the Wilderness' and 'Drums of Change'. All of Janette Oke's books are set at least a hundred years ago - both of these two are about young girls who come to know Jesus. 'Drums of Change' is about an American Indian girl who was sent to a missionary school.

The book I have read most recently is called 'Double Take' and is by Melody Carlson. It's about two teenagers, an Amish girl and a rich city girl, who are both unhappy with their lives and swap places for a week.

Of course, I still have to say that my most favourite book of all is the Bible!

I really don't know which I like best. I liked them all! I suppose the one I've re-read the most times is a book called 'Borderland' by Rosanne Hawke. I borrowed it out from the library so often the librarians joked that I practically owned it! For my birthday last year my aunt gave me my own copy of it. The book 'Borderland' is actually three books in one so I suppose that counts as a series.

I've heard of the first two (I own books from both), but I haven't heard of Mary Christner Borntrogar. I'll have to look her up.

Actually, it's interesting because my aunt lent me a Beverly Lewis book about some Amish girls around the same time that I found the verse on headcovering and was wondering about it a lot. I'm not sure whether reading about Amish people encouraged me to cover or not, but I think it maybe helped that I knew I wasn't the only one who'd interpreted that from the verse...

I also like reading about Amish people and learning about them because so many people over here think I'm Amish. I'm not sure why because I wear patterned clothing and hanging veils, but there aren't any Amish in Australia so maybe they don't realise it...?

Well, recently the main book I've been reading is called "The Driver's Handbook", published by the Government of South Australia. Quite honestly, it's the dullest book I've ever attempted to read and about three months in I'm only halfway through because I keep procrastinating. It's important to finish it, though, because I was old enough to sit for L-plates a week ago... I'm not going to sit the written test to get my learner's licence until I'm sure I'm ready, though. It's scary to think that I'm old enough to drive.

Apart from that, yesterday I purchased 'Neues Testament und Psalmen' for $1. It's the New Testament and Psalms in German. It's actually quite interesting, although I've read almost all of it before in English. I can understand it but it bring new meaning to a saying I heard once from a Bible translator - "You can tell a man something in a language he understands, and it will go to his head; you can tell him the same thing in his own language, and it will go to his heart." I'd never realised how true that was until I started reading the Bible in a language I *understood* but wasn't my own. But it's a good exercise in the language though; my knowledge of German will be so much better after I've finished. It's the first actual book I've ever attempted to read in a language other than English (baby books and magazines don't count) so I'm glad it's the Bible.

I've seen the first movie and part of the second, but that's it.

I was interested to learn that J R R Tolkein was actually a linguist, not a writer. He invented the languages for fun first, and then decided that languages were pretty useless on their own, and wrote the books to give the languages a chance to be used!
